Pakistan's towel exports rose 6.74% while bed wear fell 0.31%
The All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) set a target of $3 billion in additional exports this year and $10 billion within two to three years. In July–August, towel exports rose 6.74% while bed wear exports fell 0.31%.
The All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) announced at its annual meeting a target of $3 billion in additional textile exports for the current year and $10 billion within two to three years. To reach it, the association is asking for industrial electricity at 7 US cents per kWh, gas at $7/MMBtu and export financing at 7% a year; industrial electricity currently costs more than 11 cents.
According to APTMA, more than 80% of Pakistan's textile exports already consist of value-added consumer products.
Official data show two different directions in home textiles. According to figures reported by the state news agency APP, total textile exports in the first two months of fiscal year 2026-27 (July–August) reached $3.379 billion, up 5.55% from $3.202 billion a year earlier. In the same period towel exports rose 6.74% to $191.1 million, while bed wear exports fell 0.31% to $563.5 million.
Pakistan is a direct competitor of Turkish, Indian and Chinese producers in towels and bed linen in European and US markets. Whether the energy cost demands will be met is not yet known.
