Turkey's curtain and upholstery imports up 1,400% in 6 months
The chairman of the Turkish Home Textile Industrialists' Association (TETSİAD) said Turkey's imports of upholstery fabric, curtains and woven fabric rose 1,400% in the first half of the year. The association plans shared wholesale warehouses for 20–40 companies in the US, Africa and Europe, starting with a 5,000–6,000 m² port warehouse in Ghana.

The chairman of the Turkish Home Textile Industrialists' Association (TETSİAD) said Turkey's imports of upholstery fabric, curtains and woven fabric increased by 1,400% in the first six months of the year. The statement was published by Dünya newspaper on 13 October 2026.
A wide gap in export share
According to the association, Turkey's home textile exports stand at around $3.2bn. Turkey holds an 18.5% share of the €15bn EU import market but only 1.8% of the $14bn US import market. In Africa, China holds 94% of the market while Turkey's share is around 0.2%. Turkish home textiles face an additional 12% tariff in the US.
A shared warehouse model for wholesale buyers
TETSİAD plans large warehouses and wholesale centres in the US, Africa and Europe, modelled on China's cluster and warehouse strategy. At points called "Turkish Home Textile Hub", 20–40 companies will share one space so buyers can purchase wholesale on the spot, department-store style. The first step is Ghana: a 5,000–6,000 m² warehouse will be leased at a port with a Turkish port operator, alongside a three-day home textile fair.
What it means for curtain retailers and wholesalers
The surge in imports means domestic wholesale and retail prices for curtains and upholstery fabric now compete with imported goods. The shared overseas warehouse model aims to give mid-sized Turkish producers without their own showrooms a wholesale channel that holds stock locally.
