Upholstery Fabrics
An upholstery fabric is a cloth woven to withstand rubbing and tension, used to cover surfaces such as sofas, chairs, headboards, panels and wall cladding. Its construction may be plain weave, jacquard, chenille, velvet, bouclé or coated; the yarn is polyester, acrylic, cotton, linen, wool or a blend. Abrasion resistance, pilling, colour fastness, fire behaviour and cleanability are the measurable values used to select an upholstery fabric; they are written on the technical data sheet and the project specification names the standard required. Hotel, restaurant, office and healthcare projects call for contract-grade upholstery, while the home market is led by texture, colour and hand. Fabric width, pattern repeat and pattern direction determine the cutting plan and waste. In public procurement upholstery fabric is announced under CPV 19243000 (upholstery fabrics), while finished furnishing textiles fall under CPV 39516000 (furnishing articles).
