Blackout Curtains

A blackout curtain is a drape sewn from a woven or coated face fabric that does not let light through. The fabric is either a three-layer weave (blackout weave) or a single-layer cloth with an acrylic or foam coating on the back. Opacity is set by weave density and the coating layer, not by weight, so a light coated fabric can darken a room more than a heavy plain weave. In hotel, hospital and bedroom projects the blackout curtain is usually paired with a sheer, hung from a ceiling track and cut wide enough to pass the window on both sides. Light leaking at the edges comes from the mounting allowance, not from the fabric. In public procurement blackout curtains fall under CPV 39515400 (blinds and blackout); where fire performance is required the specification cites EN 13773 or BS 5867.
