Fire Resistance Standards Tightened in Acoustic Fabrics: EN 13501-1 Class B Requirement
Fire safety standards have been raised for sound-absorbing acoustic curtains and upholstery fabrics in public tenders across the EU and Balkan nations. Products lacking EN 13501-1 Class B-s1,d0 certification are excluded.
Fire safety regulations are being tightened across Europe in B2B textile tenders for concert halls, theaters, educational institutions, and conference centers. Acoustic fabrics traditionally manufactured with flame retardant (FR) yarns are now required to meet at least Class B-s1,d0 according to the EN 13501-1 standard.
This situation provides a significant competitive edge to companies producing with sustainable, phosphorus-based, or inherently flame-retardant (Trevira CS, etc.) fibers rather than environmentally harmful halogenated chemicals. Technical textile laboratories in Bursa and Istanbul have accelerated development work on fabrics that deliver both superior acoustic performance and full compliance with the new fire standards.
