300 cm FR fabric for balcony curtains: no declared maker found in Türkiye

The question (from the field): A curtain maker working in Switzerland is looking for fabric for outdoor curtains that run on tracks for balconies and loggias, and asks: "Who makes this fabric in Türkiye?" On 2 October 2026 TRTex researched the question through company websites, trade fair records and our directory of 4,123 companies.

Reference product: measurable values

The reference product is the "VU-Screen 989 FR Outdoor" curtain by Swiss company Texcon Fabrics. According to the manufacturer's data sheet the fabric is 300 cm wide, 350 g/m², 100% polyester; flame retardant (Klasse 5.2, B1); light and weather fastness 7–8; ultraviolet protection factor UPF 25–45 (EN 13758-1); dirt- and water-repellent, weather-resistant finish. Special colours start at 250 metres. According to the manufacturer's project document, the curtain barely obstructs the view outwards, provides privacy from outside and causes no heat build-up. The data sheet does not give the openness factor or solar transmission values (Ts/Rs/As, gtot); these are the values a buyer should request from the manufacturer.

This class is also sold by other brands in Europe: Création Baumann's "Outdoor Miami" fabric is 100% polyester FR, 320 cm, 202 g/m², made in Italy.

What exists in Türkiye? Three classes

1. Outdoor track curtain fabric (VU-Screen type): the survey did not find a Turkish weaver declaring this class on its own website. The closest producers are in a different class: TepasTex (Istanbul) makes solution-dyed acrylic and polyester outdoor fabrics for umbrellas, awnings and marine use; Gül Branda (Istanbul) makes PVC-coated tarpaulins. These are opaque technical fabrics.

2. Roller and zip screen fabric: Oba Perdesan (screen fabric series) and Kırayteks (Bursa, PVC-free "Screen" collection) produce screen fabric; their websites emphasise office and indoor use; no outdoor or zip declaration was found. Permisan (Perlux), which developed a zip blind system, states that it uses raw materials from foreign brands such as Verosol, Mermet, Serge Ferrari and Dickson.

3. Indoor screen, roller blind and curtain fabric: there is a strong production base in Bursa, Kocaeli and Zonguldak/Ereğli. Some FR curtain fabric product pages of Swiss company Création Baumann state "Turkey" as country of origin (e.g. 100% PES FR, 300 cm). This shows, indirectly, that Turkish-origin 300 cm FR curtain fabric appears in a Swiss brand's catalogue; the weaver is not named on the page. No separate evidence was found for outdoor curtains.

Field observation

According to TRTex's field observation, zip and screen systems are available in Türkiye, but they do not drape softly like a curtain, do not run on tracks and do not stack to the side. An outdoor product that opens and closes like a curtain on the balcony is therefore a separate need.

What it means for producers and buyers

The reference values in the Texcon data sheet are: 300 cm width, light and weather fastness 7–8, UPF measurement (EN 13758-1), a flame-retardancy class, and a dirt/water-repellent, rot-resistant finish. Documents a curtain maker requesting samples in this class should request from the producer: a fire-class test report (Swiss VKF 5.2 and/or DIN 4102 B1; EN 13501-1 class), a light and weather fastness report, a UPF (EN 13758-1) report, an Oeko-Tex Standard 100 number, plus the openness factor and Ts/Rs/As values. The decision rests with the curtain maker.
