Curtains

A curtain is the general name for the textile covering hung in front of a window or opening to manage light, view and heat. In home textiles a window is dressed in up to three layers: the mechanical layer closest to the glass (roller, zebra, venetian or pleated blind), a sheer in the middle that filters light, and a drape at the front that closes the room. Fabric is chosen by use: weave density sets light transmission, weight and fibre set the drape, finishing sets the hand. Curtains are measured from the mounting line, not from the window; track or pole width, fullness ratio and length allowance are written separately in a quotation.
